Renter vs. Host β€” What’s the Difference?

CageList is designed to support two types of users: renters and hosts. While both use the same platform, each role has its own tools, purpose, and dashboard.

🧒 Renter Overview

If you want to book time in a batting cage β€” you’re a renter. Most renters are:

  • ⚾ Players of all levels (youth, high school, college, etc.)
  • πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§ Parents booking cages for their kids
  • πŸ‘¨β€πŸ« Coaches organizing 1-on-1 or small group training

Renters can:

  • πŸ” Search for available batting cages by location
  • πŸ“† View pricing, photos, and availability
  • πŸ“ Submit booking requests
  • πŸ’³ Pay securely through the platform
  • πŸ“¨ Message hosts directly through CageList

🏠 Host Overview

If you want to list a cage and earn money β€” you’re a host. Most hosts are:

  • 🏑 Backyard cage owners
  • πŸ’Ό Facility managers with extra time slots
  • πŸ‘¨β€πŸ« Baseball instructors or private coaches

Hosts can:

  • πŸ“· Create a free listing with photos, pricing, and rules
  • πŸ“… Set availability and control who can book
  • πŸ“© Accept or decline booking requests
  • πŸ’Έ Get paid automatically through Stripe after bookings
  • πŸ“£ Promote their listing to local families and teams

πŸ” Can I Be Both?

Yes! Many users are both renters and hosts. For example, a coach might rent cages when traveling and also host private sessions in their own cage.

Simply log in to your account and switch between your renter and host dashboards as needed.

How Does the Booking Process Work?

The CageList booking system is designed to be fast, flexible, and easy for both renters and hosts. Here’s how the process works step-by-step.

🎯 For Renters:

  1. Search for a cage: Visit cagelist.com/s and enter your location to browse available cages.
  2. Choose a time: Review photos, amenities, house rules, and available time slots. Select a date and time that works for you.
  3. Submit a request: Click Request to Book. Your payment method will be pre-authorized but not charged until the host approves.
  4. Wait for approval: The host has up to 24 hours to accept or decline your booking. Most respond much faster.
  5. Get confirmed: If the host accepts, your payment is processed and you’ll receive confirmation details, access instructions, and a receipt.
  6. Show up & hit: Enjoy your session! Follow the host’s rules and clean up after you’re done.

πŸ’Ό For Hosts:

  1. Receive booking requests: You’ll get a notification by email (and optionally SMS).
  2. Review and accept: You can approve or decline the booking. Payment will process only upon approval.
  3. Communicate if needed: Use CageList messaging to coordinate details or ask questions before accepting.
  4. Get paid: Stripe will automatically deposit your earnings (90% of the rental fee) to your account after the session is completed.

βœ… Booking Tips:

  • ⏱ Book at least 2–4 hours in advance to give hosts time to respond
  • πŸ“Έ Always review cage photos and amenities before booking
  • πŸ“¨ Be respectful and communicative when messaging hosts
  • πŸ“† Keep your availability up to date if you’re a host

Do I Need Insurance to Rent or Host a Cage?

No, insurance is not required to use CageList β€” but we take safety seriously and encourage all users to act responsibly.

πŸ›‘ For Hosts

You are not required to have a specific insurance policy to list your cage. However, we strongly recommend the following best practices:

  • βœ… Post clear safety rules in your listing and on site
  • βœ… Maintain your equipment in good, safe condition
  • βœ… Use CageList’s official waiver for legal protection

🏷 We provide a free official liability waiver you can use with every booking:

πŸ“„ View the CageList Liability Waiver

Many hosts also choose to place a printed copy at their facility or have renters review it on-site. This added step helps ensure expectations are clearly communicated.

⚾ For Renters

No insurance is required to rent a cage, but renters must follow host rules and take full responsibility for their group’s behavior and safety during the session. Most listings will include:

  • 🚫 No horseplay or unsafe activities
  • 🚫 No climbing nets, fences, or structures
  • 🚫 No misuse of equipment or facilities

βœ… Platform Responsibility

CageList is a community-powered marketplace β€” not an operator of any cages. Hosts and renters are responsible for the safe use of space and gear. We encourage communication, mutual respect, and the use of waivers and clear expectations.
